Definition of scientific method?



There are many categories and subcategories of sciences which make it difficult to common ground for underpinning one concrete definition of scientific method. However, we will try to find a common set of rules and protocols that many of these categories and subcategories adopt.

Various dictionaries and online resources one strict definition of scientific method and explain the scientific essentials from start to end. These definitions can be valuable but these should not give the wrong impression of the science that science is infallible. Scientists are right always. Here, we are trying to break these barriers and find a true definition of a scientific method. Some dictionaries definitions are;

“The principles and empirical processes of discovery and demonstration considered characteristic of or necessary for scientific investigation, generally involving the observation of phenomena, the formulation of a hypothesis concerning the phenomena, experimentation to demonstrate the truth or falseness of the hypothesis, and a conclusion that validates or modifies the hypothesis."(Source: www.answers.com)

"Sciences: Rigorous, systematic approach, designed to eliminate bias and other subjective influences in the search, identification, and measurement or validation of facts and cause-effect relationships, and from which scientific laws may be deduced."(Source: www.businessdictionary.com)

The scientific method- not an ultimate proof

Many scientists and researchers consider scientific method a holy grave or undeniable proof about a knowledge. Media has played immense role in portraying scientific methods as the only method for finding the truths. Lawyers, advertisers and media persons bolster their claims using scientific words so that forensic scientific methods are used and bad guy has been punished. Realistically, science is not much glamorous these days. Researcher tends to make scientific method as perfect as they could but still only they know the limitations of their research and drawbacks it contain.
